Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

On Monday night at Suplizio Field the Billings Mustangs snuck out an 8-7 win over the Grand Junction Rockies to avoid getting swept in their three game series at Suplizio Field, and ending the Rockies three game win streak.

Blake Trahan started the game with a double and scored on an Aristides Aquino ground out to put the Mustangs on top, but that lead disappeared in the bottom of the second when the Rockies put up a 3-spot.

Elvin Paulino and Tyler Nevin started the inning with hits, and they scored when Bobby Stahel singled. After he stole second, Anthony Brito singled to make it a 3-1 game, but the lead was erased in the third when Aristides Aquino hit a 2-run homer, and Billings took the lead with an unearned run later in the inning.

Mylz Jones started the bottom of the third with a walk and he scored the Rockies fourth run to tie the game only to see Billings answer with a pair in the fourth.

Stahel started the bottom of the fourth with a single and scored on a wild pitch to bring the Rockies within a run, but Billings scored two runs with two out in the seventh to take an 8-5 lead, but the Rockies answered.

In the bottom of the seventh, Brito scored when Jones singled with two out, and Jones was brought home on Paulino's infield single. The Rockies had the tying run at third base, but Tyler Parmenter struck out Tyler Nevin on a questionable third strike call to end the threat.

Grand Junction did not have a hit the rest of the night, though Campbell Wear walked with two out in the eighth, but he was left at first base when Anthony Brito flied out to center, and the Rockies went down in order in the ninth.

The loss drops the Rockies to 13-11 on the season as they finish 3-2 on their homestand against Billings and Helena.

Jones, Paulino, Nevin, Stahel, and Brito had two hit nights.

Blake Trahan had three hits to go along with two walks for Billings, while Aquino drove in four runs.
