Sioux City Musketeers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers returned to the Tyson Events Center on Friday night to take on the Fargo Force. It was a tight defensive battle in this one, but unfortunately it would not go the Musketeers' way, losing in overtime by a final score of 2-1.
The first period might have been the quickest period in Musketeer hockey history. While the period was fast paced, there was little in the way of penalties and no goals. Both teams would head into the locker room tied at zero.
The 2nd period was more of the same. Just three total penalties were called in the period and the two teams combined for just 12 shots. The big story of the period was the play of Ben Kraws. Kraws made multiple saves on Fargo breakaways to keep the game tied up at zero. He would cap it off with a tremendous glove save on a one timer to keep things locked at zero.
The offense for both teams finally broke through in the 3rd period, but it would be the Force who would get the first goal. After a pile up in front of the Musketeer net, Josh Nodler managed to find the puck and send it home to give the force a 1-0 lead at the 14:20 mark. It would come down to the wire, but Sioux City would get the equalizer thanks to Bobby Brink and Albin Nilsson. Brink hit Nilsson with an excellent pass at the Fargo blueline. Nilsson skated in all alone and made a few excellent moves before sliding the puck past Ryan Bischel. His first USHL goal would tie the game up at one with just over 30 seconds to play, sending this one to overtime.
The Musketeers had a couple excellent opportunities in the overtime frame, but couldn't get one to fall. Nodler would get his second goal of the game off a rebound to send the Force home with a 2-1 victory.
Kraws was outstanding in net for Sioux City tonight, making several huge saves including his save of the year candidate. Kraws would end up stopping 21 of 23 shots in the loss, while Bischel had 18 saves for the Force.
The Musketeers will head out on the road to take on Des Moines on Saturday night before having a week off from play. Puck drop set for 7:05 pm.
