Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers were back in Des Moines on Saturday night looking for a bounce-back win after a tough overtime loss the night before. It took a while, but the Musketeers managed to break through late in this one, skating to a convincing 4-1 victory over the Buccaneers.

The Musketeers started a bit slower than they would have like in the 1st period but still managed to limit the chances for Des Moines. The Bucs however, managed to convert on one of those chances when Patrick Shmiedlin threw a puck off a Musketeer defenders skate to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead at the 15:17 mark of the 1st period. It was an unlucky bounce for Sioux City, but they didn't let that deter them as their play continued to improve throughout the game.

The score would remain 1-0 for much of the 2nd period until the Musketeers got a big powerplay opportunity late in the frame. Bobby Brink did a nice job holding the puck in the zone before finding Luke Johnson with a backhand pass at the point. Johnson slid the puck over to Marcus Kallionkieli who wired home a wrist shot to tie the game up at the 18:49 of the 2nd period.

The game would remain in a tight 1-1 tie for much of the 3rd period but with just over five minutes to play the Musketeers found their stride and the floodgates opened.

Jordan Steinmetz broke the tie at the 14:24 mark with a one-time bomb off a pass from Parker Ford to give Sioux City a 2-1 advantage. Three minutes later Parker Ford, who was named tonight's number one star, put one past Durny to give Sioux City a big 3-1 lead. The goal was unassisted. Bobby Brink put the nail in the Bucs' coffin with a rip at the 18:02 mark to give Sioux City a 4-1 lead. That would prove to be plenty for Sioux City. Rookie goaltender Jake Sibell shutout Des Moines the rest of the way as Sioux City cruised to a 4-1 victory.

Sibell was excellent in net all night long for the Musketeers. He stopped 23 of 24 Buccaneer shots to earn his second win of the season. Roman Durny made 27 saves for Des Moines.

With the win, the Musketeers extended their point streak to ten games and sit one point behind the Tri-City Storm for the top spot in the Western Conference and two points ahead of the Buccaneers.

The Musketeers will now have a week off from play before heading down to Lincoln on December 7th to take on the Stars. The Musketeers will return to the Tyson Events Center on December 8th for Star Wars, and Teddy Bear Toss night.
