Sioux City Musketeers News Release
Teemu Pulkkinen scored a pair of goals, including the game-tying goal with just under 8 minutes to play in regulation, but it wasn't enough as the Musketeers fell 5-4 in overtime in their last game of the 2015-16 preseason schedule.
First period action was fast and furious with the two teams trading goals to a 4-3 score by the end of 20 minutes of play. Dubuque paced the offensive side of the game with 16 shots to Sioux City's 9. Jacob Wilson was given a double minor for spearing late in the third, leading to a go-ahead goal power play goal by the Saints.
Dubuque came out surging offensively to start the second period with numerous scoring chances against a seemingly weary Musketeer defense. Both teams were on their second game in a 24 hour period. The Musketeers began to turn things around in the second half of the period after trailing in shots 8-3 at the midway point. The Musketeers paced the game offensively in the second half of the period with 4 shots to the Saints 1. The Musketeers would continue to trail 4-3 at the end of the period.
The teams traded scoring chances in the final period of regulation. The Musketeers Teemu (pronounced Tay-moo) Pulkkinen scored the game-tying goal with 7:49 left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Neither team was able to score in the first 3 minutes of the overtime frame, where both sides skate with 4 players each until the first whistle after 3 minutes elapsed in the extra session. The Saints Charlie Combs scored his second of the game when he buried the game-winner on a wide open net after Kania was left alone on a 2 on 0 break for the Saints. The Musketeers finish preseason action with a 3-0-2 record, scoring 18 goals in 5 games while allowing 12.
The 2015-16 regular season kicks off next weekend when the Musketeers travel to Fargo on Friday, September 25th for the Force' home opener at Scheels Arena. Game time is 7:05pm. Fans are invited to Buffalo Wild Wings Sioux City location in Lakeport Commons to watch the road game live during the first Watch Party of the season at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Sioux City opens their home schedule at Tyson Events Center on Saturday, October 3rd when they host the defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede for a 7:00pm game.
