Cardinals third baseman Jake Mullinax, was named the NY-Penn League Batter of the Week, for the week ending July 4th. The last Cardinal receive this award was pitcher Erik Drown in 2003 (7/7-7/13). Mullinax helped the Cardinals to 4 victories last week by hitting .387 with a home run and 11 RBI. He also posted a .516 slugging percentage along with a .406 on-base percentage. In his last 5 games, Mullinax is hitting .348 (8-for-23), with a team high 8 hits and 9 RBI.
Jake recorded a hit in each of the Cardinals7 games last week, extending his current hitting streak to 8 games. It is the leagues 4th longest current hitting streak, the 9th longest of the season. In addition, Mullinax has at least 1 RBI in each of those 7 games, including three multi-RBI performances on the road.
Tonight the Cardinals will open a 3-game set with the Tri-City Valley Cats (Houston Astros) at 7:15pm at Skylands Park. Monday night kids eat free sponsored by KFC and The New Jersey Herald, and Tuesday there is a post-game party at the Hampton House Grill and Bar with Cardinals players, coaches and staff.
