Mulder Parades Bulls Past Charge

CANTON, OH - Looking to avenge last season's 117-87 loss at the hands of the Windy City Bulls on the floor of The Q, the Canton Charge (12-20), fell to the Windy City Bulls (17-16), 120-77 at Quicken Loans Arena in front of 7,916 fans. Today's loss marks the Charge's fifth consecutive loss overall as well as fifth straight against divisional opponents.

After a slow start for both sides, Akron native JaKarr Sampson put Windy City on the board at the 9:56 mark of the first quarter. Cavaliers' assignee Kobi Simmons answered with a 16 foot jumper before the Bulls would respond with an 8-0 run to open up with a 10-2 lead. Behind Bulls' guard Mychal Mulder's 10 first quarter points, the visitors never trailed in the first 12 minutes and pushed their lead to as many as 18. The Charge closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run, including a deep corner three from Malik Newman with 15 seconds remaining to cut Windy City's lead to 29-16 heading into the second quarter.

Bulls forward Ferrakohn Hall gave Windy City a 31-16 lead with an 11 foot jumper to start the second quarter before Canton answered with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 31-26 with 8:45 remaining in the half. Malik Newman provided a much needed spark for the Charge offense, scoring eight points on 3-of-5 shooting in the quarter while grabbing four boards. Windy City closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run to push their lead back to 15 and never trailed in the first 24 minutes. Windy City shot 52% in the first half while holding Canton to 34%. The Bulls controlled the paint, outscoring the hosts 32-22 down low.

Mulder erupted in the third quarter for 23 points of the Bulls' 35 on a perfect 8-for-8 from the field including 5-of-5 from three-point distance. The Bulls assisted on 10-of-11 made field goal attempts in the third quarter en route to shooting 55% from the field. Canton failed to find a rhythm in the third, shooting 23% from the field, including 0-for-10 from beyond the arc. Behind Mulder's offensive outbreak, the Bulls pushed their lead to as many as 37 in the period.

The fourth quarter saw Windy City's lead reach as many as 45. Hall scored 12 of his 14 points in the fourth to help put the Charge away. The Bulls now lead the season series 2-1 with one more contest slated for the season finale on March 23rd in Windy City.

Newman lead the Charge in scoring with 19 points off of the bench. JaCorey Williams provided 15 points and nine rebounds in 30 hard-fought minutes. Canton shot 19% from beyond and are now shooting 21% from three over their past four games.

Mulder scored a season-high 37 points on 14-of-16 shooting while grabbing five rebounds and dishing four assists in 33 minutes of action. Sampson recorded a double-double with 16 points (7-of-10 shooting) and 12 rebounds. Former Charge guard Jon Octeus had 6 points and 11 rebounds.
