Carolina Mudcats News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA - Kyle Blair stifled Lynchburg hitters, and the Carolina Mudcats' offense pulled away for a 7-2 victory on Wednesday night at Lynchburg City Stadium.
Three players had multi-hit efforts in the win for Carolina (31-35). Blair (5-1) earned his fourth straight winning decision, holding the Hillcats (35-31) to one run on two hits over five innings.
All-Star Shawn Armstrong dealt a scoreless ninth. The right-hander has only allowed one run through 32 innings.
Chris Masters (0-2) took the loss for the Hillcats, allowing four runs over 5.1 innings on four hits.
Anthony Gallas had a monster night for the Mudcats, plating four runs on three hits. Tony Wolters and Delvi Cid had a pair of knocks for Carolina as well. Jeremie Tice snapped a 0-for-13 slump by belting his league-leading 12th home run over the center field wall.
Lynchburg took the early lead on three hits against starter Danny Salazar in the first inning. Edward Salcedo doubled home Matt Lipka for a 1-0 lead.
Gallas cracked his fifth home run, a two-run shot, over the left field wall to put Carolina on top 2-1 in the second.
A home run by Braeden Schlehuber off Blair in the fourth inning tied the game 2-2, but it was all Mudcats from there. Carolina scored three in the sixth inning on the Tice homer and a two-run single by Gallas. Wolters and Urshela knocked in a run with base knocks in the seventh to finish off the scoring.
The Mudcats finish the first half with a four-game series at Salem. Game one is set for a 7:05 p.m. start on Thursday night. Carolina returns home to host Wilmington and Frederick on June 21. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
