Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats will don special "Stars and Stripes" caps as part of a Minor League-wide campaign to honor America this Fourth of July Weekend. The club will be among 113 teams helping to raise funds as part of awareness initiatives for Welcome Back Veterans, an organization dedicated to addressing the ongoing needs of military personnel and their families.

The program is in its fifth year and the New Era Cap Company will once again design the special "Stars and Stripes" caps. The caps will have the American flag etched into a star behind the Mudcats' white primary logo, with a red crown and an alternative color on the brims and buttons. Fans wishing to purchase the Mudcats' cap can do so at the Tackle Box Store located behind home plate at Five County Stadium or through shopmudcats.com.

Minor League Baseball, in conjunction with its licensing partner Major League Baseball Properties, will once again donate 100 percent of the proceeds from cap sales to Welcome Back Veterans as part of its contribution to the program. Since the program's inception in 2010, MiLB has contributed annually to the veterans' organization.

"As Minor League Baseball fans gather this Fourth of July weekend to celebrate America's birthday, we will also take time to honor and thank all the members of our armed forces for their service to our country," said Minor League Baseball President & CEO Pat O'Conner. "The Stars & Stripes cap program is one way we are showing our commitment to our military and an organization whose mission is to provide treatment to our veterans and their families. It's a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices they make every day."

The Mudcats will celebrate Independence Day with three nights of fireworks July 3, 4 and 5. The club opens a three-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats tonight at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets and other information are available by calling the box office at (919) 269-2287 or by logging on to carolinamudcats.com.
