Montgomery Biscuits News Release
Zebulon, N. Car. - The Carolina Mudcats (4-2) knocked Montgomery Biscuits (2-4) starter Jake McGee out of their series opener at Five County Stadium after just two innings Wednesday night and didn't stop against the Biscuits' bullpen, defeating the two-time champs, 7-1, in the series opener.
McGee (0-1) used 74 pitches in two innings, walking four and allowing three hits. It could have been worse for the big lefty, had he not stranded the bases loaded in each of his two innings. The Mudcats mimicked their first two innings in the third against Jeremy Flanagan, scoring one and leaving the bases full. Flanagan lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits.
Errors plagued the Biscuits again. A catcher's interference call led to an unearned run for McGee in the first inning; a dropped line drive by Ronnie Merrill followed by a dropped flyball by Sergio Pedroza cost the Biscuits a run in the sixth. The Biscuits have committed 12 errors in their six games.
Mudcats starter Chris Volstad held down the Biscuits for six innings, allowing only a bases-loaded single by Rhyne Hughes in the sixth inning that accounted for Montgomery's only run.
Carolina cleanup man Gaby Sanchez hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning against Wade Townsend to cap the scoring.
The series continues Thursday night at 6:15 Central Time, with Biscuits righty Wade Davis (1-0) taking on Carolina righty Ryan Tucker (0-0).
