Mudcats Take Series Finale, 4-3

PEARL, MS-The Carolina Mudcats plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the M-Braves 4-3 in the series finale at Trustmark Park. With the loss, the M-Braves fell to 14-30 in one-run games this season.
Carolina (20-24, 43-71) plated four runs on six hits and one error while the Braves (21-24, 46-69) managed three runs on seven hits and two errors.
Cory Harrilchak tripled to lead off the bottom of the second. He then came in to score when Mycal Jones grounded out to shortstop, giving the M-Braves an early 1-0 lead.
The Mudcats tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth. Jake Kahaulelio singled and scored on a James Skelton doubled to center field.
Kahaulelio and Quintin Berry both reached on errors in the seventh and Curtis Partch walked to load the bases. Henry Rodriguez walked to give the Mudcats a 2-1 lead before Cody Puckett delivered a two-run single to make a 4-1 game.
Braeden Schlehuber and Jordan Kreke both reached on two-out singles in the bottom of the seventh. Ed Lucas followed with a single to right field, plating Schlehuber and cutting Carolina's lead to 4-2. Willie Cabrera then made it a one-run game with a bases-loaded single to right field. Lucas was thrown out at the plate trying to tie the game.
Curtis Partick (1-0) picked up the win. He limited the M-Braves to three earned runs on six hits while fanning five in six and 2/3 innings of work. Donnie Joseph (S, 5) came on in the ninth to notch the save.
Jose Lugo (0-4) went six and 2/3 innings, giving up four runs, one earned run, on four hits and three walks. He struck out seven Mudcats on the night.
Lefty Chris Cody (1-0, 3.00) takes the hill in game one of a five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium Wednesday night. He'll counter BayBears' left-hander Patrick Corbin (8-7, 4.20). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
