Mobile BayBears News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - With a doubleheader split on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium, the BayBears maintained their 7.5 game lead over the Montgomery Biscuits for the top spot in the South Division with a 6-0 loss in the opener before a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

Alex Colome (2-1) was dominant for the Biscuits (57-58, 23-22) in game one as he limited the BayBears (68-46, 30-14) to just one hit in his seven scoreless innings. Taylor Harbin's single in the second was the only blemish on Colome's count as he walked two while striking out two.

Montgomery grabbed the lead from Wes Roemer (8-7) with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kyeong Kang pushed home the first tally with a single while John Shelby's sac fly put the Biscuits by two. Four more runs crossed the dish in the fifth as Cole Figueroa ripped a two-run triple and scored on a two-run homer from Henry Wrigley. Roemer pitched all six frames in the losing effort.

In the second contest, the BayBears didn't waste any time, jumping on the scoreboard. Ryan Wheeler and Josh Ford battered back-to-back RBI singles to put the BayBears up by two. Montgomery got one back against Kyler Newby (8-1) in the second as Wrigley doubled and scored on a Shelby groundout. Newby lasted five innings and surrendered only five hits as he beat the Biscuits for the fourth time this year.

With the BayBears leading by a run in the sixth, Dan Kaczrowski delivered a big insurance run as he singled Ford home. A.J. Pollock put the ballgame out of reach with his seventh home run of the season to lead-off the seventh inning. Mike DeMark (S, 9) worked a perfect bottom of the seventh to close out the Biscuits.

The BayBears lead in the South Division by 7.5 games over the second-place Biscuits with their magic number to clinch a South Division second half crown at 19. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday night to battle the Mississippi Braves in the start of a five-game series at 7:05 as lefty Patrick Corbin (8-7) gets the start against fellow southpaw Chris Cody (1-0). It's a Wine Down Wednesday with $1 Rush Wines available between 6 and 8 p.m. The BayBears will be home through Sunday in a five-game set that features PULSE Pro-Life Night on Friday and the Turner Walk on Saturday. After Greg Sexton lined out to third, Cole Figueroa drew a walk to bring up Henry Wrigley. Wrigley singled home Beckham while Kyeong Kang finished the rally by slamming a three-run homer to make it 6-0.

Shane Dyer (6-7) was solid for 7.1 innings, but he let up a couple of runs in the fourth. Ryan Wheeler stroked a double down the left field line and scored on a three-bagger by Marc Krauss. Krauss crossed the dish when Taylor Harbin lined out to right on a diving catch by Kang.

Montgomery pulled away with three in the bottom of the fifth including a two-run jack from John Shelby. Figueroa added a sac fly in the sixth to put the Biscuits up by eight. The BayBears (67-45, 29-13) rallied briefly in the eighth as Wheeler drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ollie Linton but Krauss punched out and Harbin bounced into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

The BayBears lead in the South Division by 7.5 games over the second-place Biscuits, and the two squads will battle in the fourth of a five-game set on Monday night at 7:05. Right-hander Wes Roemer (8-6) starts for the BayBears against fellow right-hander Alex Colome (1-1).

The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium on Wednesday, August 10 to battle the Mississippi Braves in the start of a five-game series at 7:05.
