Mudcats Swept Away by Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Carolina Mudcats dropped a pair of games to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Thursday night in front of 3,484 at TicketReturn.com Field.

The Mudcats fall to 16-16, a game behind Myrtle Beach (17-15).

Game one was dominated by pitching before the Pelicans scored a bases loaded walk in the last of the eighth to win 2-1. Shawn Armstrong (0-1) allowed the game-winning pass, his first run in eight appearances. Randy Henry (3-0) pitched three perfect frames in relief, striking out four.

In the second inning, Ronny Rodriguez gave Carolina the early lead on his second home run of the year, but Josh Richmond tied the game with a solo blast in the third stanza.

Mike Rayl had another quality start for the Mudcats, holding Myrtle Beach to one run over seven innings.

Game two was all Myrtle Beach. The Pelicans hit Will Roberts (1-1) for four runs on 10 hits in the first four frames. The Mudcats' bullpen allowed the final six runs over three innings.

Joe Van Meter was perfect in the start for Myrtle Beach, facing the minimum overt four innings. The right-hander struck out seven. Francisco Mendoza (1-0) earned the win, allowing a run on two hits in a pair of relief innings.
