Mudcats Drop Heartbreaker to Keys in Extras

Zebulon, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats suffered a disappointing setback to the Frederick Keys on Friday night at Five County Stadium, falling 4-3 in 11 innings. The Mudcats fell to 11-17, while the Keys improved to 15-13 with their third extra inning win.

Tommy Winegardner (1-0) picked up the win by tossing two scoreless innings. The right-hander scattered three hits and struck out one. Marcel Prado earned his second save with perfect 11th inning.

Enosil Tejeda (0-2) was left with the loss after allowing a run in the final frame. Johnny Reuttiger drew a lead-off walk against the right-hander, and moved to second on a sacrifice. Zane Chavez laced a double to the gap in left-center to plate the eventual game-winner.

Frederick jumped on Carolina's starter Jacob Lee for two runs in the first. The Keys sent eight batters to the plate, but the Keys left the bases loaded. Lee settled in to toss 4.1 innings. The right-hander struck out five without a walk.

The Mudcats responded with two in their half of the first. Tyler Naquin drew a walk against Tim Berry, and scored on a triple by Francisco Lindor. Jerrud Sabourin pulled a groundball to first to bring home Lindor for a 2-2 tie.

Justin Toole pushed the Mudcats out front with a two-out single, scoring Jordan Smith, in the fourth. Frederick tied the score with a two-out single by Sammie Starr in the sixth.

The win for Frederick spoiled a terrific offensive night for Lindor. The Carolina shortstop finished 4-for-6. The triple was his fourth, and he earned his 12th RBI.
