Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 3, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash started their six-game homestand with a bang by blowing out the Salem Red Sox 10-1 in front of 6,723 at BB&T Ballpark Friday night.
After being held without a hit in the first two innings, the Dash (15-13) came alive against Salem's William Cuevas (1-3) in the third. Rangel Ravelo led the inning off a single in his first at-bat with Winston-Salem, and Mark Tracy hit a towering bomb to left field to open the scoring. Later in the third, back-to-back singles by Joey DeMichele and Chris Curley preceded a passed ball to make it 3-0.
Winston would add four more in the very next frame. Grant Buckner led off with a double off the wall in left, and Jeremy Farrell singled him home for his league-leading 22nd RBI of the campaign.
Ravelo followed the Farrell single with his second hit of the night, putting two on for Tracy. For the second straight at-bat, Tracy took the first pitch from Cuevas over the left field wall to make it 7-0 Dash.
Winston-Salem swingers stayed hot in the fifth. Ravelo got things going with a run-producing single for his first RBI since joining the team from Low-A Kannapolis. Tracy then continued his excellent night with an RBI single of his own.
The RBI was Tracy's sixth of the game, which tied his career-high and the Dash-era high for a single game. Ravelo came around to score the inning's final tally on another passed ball.
The offense overshadowed Dash starter Chris Bassitt (4-0). Bassitt went seven innings, giving up just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts while picking up a win for the fourth consecutive start. The only run Salem (12-14) would manage off the right-hander was a solo home run by Brandon Jacobs in the fifth.
Jason Van Skike and Jeremy Erben came out of the bullpen and twirled a scoreless inning to complete the dominant effort.
The Dash continue their three-game set with Salem Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. Right-hander Chris Beck (2-3, 1.45 ERA) will be on the mound for Winston-Salem, while Salem will counter with southpaw Henry Owens (2-1, 2.08 ERA). The Pregame Dash begins at 6:45 on wsdash.com, and first pitch will be at 7:00. The game can also be seen live on My 48 in the Winston-Salem area.
The Dash are expected to reach their one millionth fan sometime this month, and one lucky fan in attendance on that historic night will have a chance to win one million dollars. For tickets, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
