Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BUGS TIE AUSTIN LATE, FALL IN SHOOTOUT â On Friday night, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs opened the seventh season of hockey in the Ark-La-Tex with their first home game of the 2003-04 season. The Austin Ice Bats were able to spoil the party later, however, with a 3-2 shootout win over the Mudbugs in front of 5,403 fans. In the second period, the Mudbugs opened the scoring with their first power play goal of the young season as Craig Minard's turning slap shot slid under the pads of Austin goaltender Peter Brady. John St. Louis was then able to tie the game at 14:16 with his first goal as a member of the Ice Bats. In the third period, Brett Seguin took a Joey Bastien pass from below the goal line and beat Ken Carroll with a wrist shot from the slot for his first goal of the season. Austin held onto the lead, despite two late Mudbugs power plays, until the final seconds of regulation. With 7.8 seconds left, Chris Brassard found a loose puck in front of the Austin crease and chipped the tying goal past Brady in dramatic fashion. After a scoreless overtime, Austin scored three times in the shootout to seal the win, 3-2.
CARROLL PERFECT VS. NEW MEXICO â The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs concluded their home opening weekend on Saturday with a 2-0 win over the New Mexico Scorpions in front of 4,103 fans at the CenturyTel Center. After a scoreless first period, the Mudbugs took control of the hockey game with 20 shots on goal in the second. At 9:45 of the second period, Bossier-Shreveport capitalized on a two-man advantage as Forbes MacPherson's slap shot from the blue line went through a screen and past Scorpions goaltender Miguel Beaudry. Then with 15 seconds left in the period, Chad Spurr took a Chris Brassard pass to the front of the net and backhanded the puck past Beaudry for his first goal of the season. Ken Carroll continued his outstanding play by making 11 saves in the third period for a total of 30 on the night and recorded the 11th shutout of his professional career. With his goal, Chad Spurr also extended his point scoring streak to four games.
