CHL Names Week's Best
October 27, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
2002-2003 CHL Most Valuable Player finalist Todd Marcellus of the Tulsa Oilers has been named the Bauer/Nike CHL Player of the Week, while netminder Jeff Levy of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees has been honored as the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week.
Marcellus, who finished last season with 40 goals and 53 assists, enjoyed a productive week in leading the Oilers to a 2-1-0 record. He chipped in with an assist in a 4-2 loss to Oklahoma City October 21st, then scored two goals in consecutive nights in wins over Memphis and Colorado. Two of his four goals came on the power play, with another scored shorthanded on an outstanding individual effort. The Ontario native currently sits tied for second in the CHL with seven points, and tied for third in the CHL with four goals.
Behind outstanding play from goaltender Jeff Levy, the expansion Killer Bees posted their first two wins in franchise history over the weekend. Levy stopped all 25 shots faced October 24th in a 3-0 win at Amarillo, then made 16 saves on 17 shots in a 3-1 victory at Lubbock October 25th. The shutout was the first of the season in the CHL, and the fifth of Levy's pro career. The Salt Lake City, Utah native earned his 42nd and 43rd career wins in the CHL/WPHL, recording 23 and 18 win seasons previously with El Paso.
