Mudbugs Stop RiverKings Win Streak At Four

(Bossier City, LA) -- The Mississippi RiverKings' four-game winning streak was halted by the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Tuesday, January 6th, with the Mudbugs scoring three final period goals in a 5-3 victory.

With the victory, Bossier-Shreveport moved into a second-place tie with the RiverKings. Both teams are just two points behind front-running Oklahoma City in the Central Hockey League's Northeast Division.

The first period was scoreless with the Mudbugs outshooting the RiverKings by a 7-4 margin.

In the second period, the RiverKings opened the scoring with Jeff Nelson scoring his 11th goal of the year at 6:57, but Bossier-Shreveport answered with two straight goals, including goals from Neil Clark at 8:16 and Tyrel Lucas at 8:53.

Mississippi tied the game at 16:55 with a power play goal from Bobby Chaumont to knot the game at 2-2, going into the third period of play.

Bossier-Shreveport broke open the game in the third period with a power play goal from Chris Brassard and full-strength counters from Brett Angel and Neil Clark for a 5-2 lead.

The RiverKings forged a late rally when Joe Markusen deflected a Jeff Alcombrack shot on the power play at 14:32 of the final frame for what became the final score.

Of note, Nelson scored a goal and added an assist playing in his 1100th career professional hockey game.

Mississippi scored two power play goals in eight attempts, while Bossier-Shreveport was 1-for-4 with the man advantage. The RiverKings out shot the Mudbugs by a 30-29 margin, taking 17 shots on net in the second period.
