January 6, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that All-Star Forward Darryl Smith has been sent back to the Bucks from the AHL's Houston Aeros. Smith is expected back in the line-up tonight when Laredo travels to take on Rio Grande Valley at 7:35pm.
In four games with the Aeros, Smith didn't register any points, while picking up four penalty minutes, to go along with a minus-one rating.
"Houston was happy with what Darryl did up there with them", said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "It was a great learning experience for him, and we're glad to have him back with us".
Despite missing the Bucks last two games, the 5'11, 190 pound Smith still leads all CHL rookies in scoring with 38 points (19-19=38), and has scored a goal in 13 of his 29 games with Laredo.
Smith was voted to the All-Star starting line-up on December 30, the same day he was called up to Houston.
Smith leads the Bucks in several offensive categories this season, including goals (19) and game-winning goals (5). Smith is tied for the team lead in power-play goals with Alex Goupil (6), as well as tied in short-handed goals with Bobby Russell (2).
Smith attended the Aeros training camp prior to this season.
The Bucks will host "Pink in the Rink" on Friday against Bossier. If the Bucks sell out the game, the team will donate $10,000 to Wings.
