Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs broke a franchise record with their 16th consecutive home win Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center , a hard-fought 2-1 triumph against the Laredo Bucks. Daniel Pegoraro's game-winning goal with just 3:09 remaining was the difference as the Mudbugs stayed in first place overall in the CHL standings with 60 points on the season.
Pegoraro's goal came with time winding down in a 1-1 game to provide the winning margin and extend Bossier-Shreveport's streak to 19 straight games without a regulation loss. Ken Carroll stopped 20 Bucks shots and made a few great saves on his way to winning for the 13th start in a row.
The game started out with a scoreless, and yet very exciting, first period. Both teams moved the puck well in the opening frame and ended up with seven shots apiece. The Mudbugs missed on three powerplays and Laredo was 0 for 2 in the period. Carroll had the save of the night in the first as well, moving from right to left to stop Andrew Desjardins in the slot.
The scoreless tie would only last for the first 23 seconds of the second period before Bossier-Shreveport found the back of the net. Kevin Cooper received a lead pass from Jason Basile right at the blue line and got around the defenseman long enough to backhand a pass across the slot to Elias Godoy, who finished off his 11th of the year to put the âBugs on top. The scoreboard didn't change for the rest of the second period despite two more Bucks powerplays, and the âBugs led 1-0 after forty minutes.
Laredo turned up the pressure in the third period to try and tie the game, and they would do exactly that less than three minutes into the final period. Carroll made the save on a slapshot from a rushing Steve Simoes in the circle, but the puck trickled between his pads just in front of the goal line, where Matt Summers was able to poke it in to tie the contest at one. The Mudbugs put a total of 15 shots on Bucks goalie John Ceci in the the period, but the deadlock continued until Pegoraro's goal at the 16:51 mark. Joe Ori's hard work in the corner after the âBugs dumped the puck in the Laredo zone freed it up at the side of the net to Tyrel Lucas, who found Pegoraro all alone in front. Pegoraro then beat Ceci with a wrist shot to the stick side for his ninth goal of the season to re-take the lead. Laredo 's late empty-net rush came up short, and Bossier-Shreveport advanced to 2-0 on the season against the Bucks with a 2-1 victory.
The Mudbugs outshot the Bucks 28-21 for night after a 15-8 shot advantage in the final period. The âBugs had their streak of 12 straight games with a powerplay goal snapped, going 0 for 5 with the man advantage, while Laredo finished 0 for 4.
Bossier-Shreveport will finish up a grueling stretch of seven games in ten days on Sunday afternoon at the CenturyTel Center , taking on Rio Grande Valley at 4:05 pm. It's the first of just two Sunday home games for the Mudbugs this season, and their final game in the month of January. The Mudbugs and Killer Bees are set to clash at 4:05 pm on Sunday afternoon at CenturyTel center. Individual tickets are available through Ticketmaster by calling 318-741-9700 and group tickets can be purchased through the Mudbugs office at 318-752-BUGS.
