Laredo Bucks News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs 2-1 Saturday night in front of 7,114 fans at the CenturyTel Center.
The loss puts Laredo at 27-13-2 (56 points) for the season.
The Mudbugs won their 16th straight home game, breaking a franchise record, and putting them back atop the CHL standings with 60 points (28-7-4).
Laredo was outshot for the second straight night, this time 28-21.
Bossier leading scorer Daniel Pegoraro scored from the right hash mark with just 3:09 left. Pegoraro took a pass from Tyrel Lucas in the right corner to shoot the puck past Bucks goaltender John Ceci (1-3).
Laredo pulled Ceci for the final 1:09 of the game to gain an extra attacker, and had several opportunities but Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll saved the game for Bossier.
The First period was just about even, as both teams failed to score.
Each team put up seven shots in the frst period, with both goaltenders stopping everything that came there way. Bucks goaltender John Ceci set aside all seven Mudbugs shots, while Bossier goaltender Ken Carroll stopped all seven Laredo shots.
Laredo nearly took a 1-0 lead around the 7:30 mark of the period, when Serge Dube's slap shot from the point hit the crossbar. Carroll then fell down and sat on the puck in the crease to keep the contest scoreless.
Both teams also came up empty with the man advantage in the period, as Laredo went 0-2, while the Mudbugs were 0-3 with the man advantage.
The Mudbugs took a 1-0 lead just 33 seconds into the middle period when Elias Godoy sent the puck in from the bottom of the left circle. Ceci made the initial save, but the puck trickled thru his legs and across the line into the net.
The second period saw both teams put up six shots, with Ceci stopping five of six he faced and Carroll setting aside all six in the Mubugs net.
The Bucks (11-8-2 on the road) were busy on the penalty kill in the second period, as they killed off two Bossier power-play attempts, with the Mudbugs killing off all three Laredo man advantages.
The Bucks tied the game up at the 2:54 mark of the third period when Matt Summers poked in a Steve Simoes slap shot from the left circle.
Simoes sent a slap shot from the right circle that trickled by Carroll, and Summers opportunistically jammed it in the back of the net.
Carroll stopped 20 of 21 Bucks shots in picking up the win, while Ceci suffered another hard luck loss, setting aside 26 of 28 Mudbug shots. Laredo will host league-leading Rocky Mountain Rage on Wednesday January 30th for the third-annual adopt a pet night.
