Arizona Sundogs News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs and Colorado Eagles skated in game two of their weekend series Saturday night at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. The Eagles penalty kill was the difference in the contest, holding Arizona and the league's top powerplay scoreless on nine chances, while tallying two shorthanded goals en route to a 4-2 win.

Neither team was able to solve the opposing goaltender in the opening frame as Andrew Gallant turned away 11 shots for Arizona while Bryan Bridges deflected 10 shots for his club.

In the second, both teams found the back of the net, with Colorado holding a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes of play. The Eagles scored first 6:33 into the period as Riley Nelson tallied a shorthanded unassisted goal for his 20th of the year. At the 16:58 mark, Arizona tied the game as Jonathan Bernier pushed a loose rebound through Bridges for his second goal of the season. Tyler Redenbach and Chris Bartolone collected assists on the equalizer. With 1:11 to play in the second, Colorado regained a one-goal lead on a Dave Iannazzo powerplay marker. Ed McGrane and Seth Leonard were credited with helpers on the late go ahead goal. Arizona outshot Colorado 14-5 in the second for a two period 24-16 advantage.

Midway through the third, Colorado grabbed its second shorthanded tally of the game, this time off the stick of Greg Pankewicz from Riley Nelson. Just prior to the shorthanded goal, Arizona looked to have tied the game at 2-2, but the red light failed to signal. After discussion with the goal judge, referee Zac Wiebe upheld the no goal call. The Eagles added a fourth with 4:32 to play in the game as Mike Lukajic found the back of the net from Aaron Schneekloth and Les Borsheim. Arizona answered back 13 seconds later with their second of the game to stay within striking distance as rookie forward Mark Kolanos gathered his 23rd of the year from Rob Lehtinen to close out the game's scoring.

Andrew Gallant started in net for Arizona and stopped 20 of 24 shots in the loss while Bryan Bridges blocked 42 of 44 shots for Colorado in the win. The Sundogs were unable to convert on the powerplay Saturday night, finishing 0-for-9 with the man advantage while Colorado went 1-for-6 on the powerplay.

With the loss, Arizona (23-12-4) drops to second in the Southern Conference, one point back of first place Odessa. The Sundogs next travel to New Mexico for a Tuesday night matchup against the Scorpions. Game time is set for 7:15pm and can be heard live on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
