
Hounds Make Roster Moves

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski announced today the signings of defenseman Andrew Scampoli and forward Russell Spence. The team also announced today that they acquired the rights to goaltender Kevin Beech from the Laredo Bucks in exchange for future considerations. The Hounds also traded the rights to goaltender Robert Mcvicar to the Arizona Sundogs for future considerations. As per team policy terms of the deals will not be disclosed.
Scampoli, 22, is in his second stint as a SteelHound. He played in all three games last weekend against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs registering a -1 and two penalty minutes. He returns to Youngstown from the Indiana Ice Miners of the Mid Atlantic Hockey League where he had five goals and 19 assists in 22 games.
Spence, 26, was the ninth round draft pick (# 280 overall) of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-3, 220-pound forward from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba played two seasons in the ECHL and United Hockey Leagues registering 10 goals and 10 assists in 88 games from 2003-2005. He spent the 2005-06 season in Germany accumulating 14 points and 41 penalty minutes in 21 games for Bad Nauheim EC.
Both players will join the team tonight when the Hounds host the Rocky Mountain Rage at 7:05.
Kevin Beech, 21, was the sixth round draft pick (# 165 overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2005 NHL Entry Draft. The rookie from London, Ontario played five years in the Ontario Hockey League for the Sudbury Wolves and Erie Otters. In 2007 he received an amateur tryout with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League posting an 0-3-0 record with a 3.13 goals against average and a save percentage of .903. This season with the Laredo Bucks the 6-4, 168-pound net minder was 10-4-1 in 19 starts with a 2.42 goals against average, a .900 save percentage and two shutouts.
