(Southaven, MS) - Evgeny Saidachev scored a pair of goals, and netminders Brian Moir and John Horrell combined on a 23-save shutout as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 5-0 in an exhibition game at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southhaven, Mississippi. The Mudbugs were able to salvage a win of the two pre-season contests scheduled between the Central Hockey League teams.
Travis Clayton scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the first period, beating RiverKings' netminder Kevin Beech at 3:21 for a 1-0 Bossier-Shreveport lead. The power play goal was Clayton's first point of the pre-season. Joe Blaznek assisted on the Clayton tally.
Bossier-Shreveport took a 2-0 lead about four minutes later, again on the power, play, when Blaznek scored past Beech, assisted by Dale Lupul and Dominik Rozman at 7:29.
That's when Saidachev took over, netting the next two Mudbugs' goals. The first was a full-strength goal at 8:55, assisted by Rozman; the second came on the power play from Lupul and Simon Mangos at 16:47 for a 4-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.
There was no scoring in the second period by either team, but in the third frame the Mudbugs added one more goal when Brett Smith netted the final tally from Todd Paul at 10:26 of the period.
Bossier-Shreveport outshot the RiverKings 27-23, thanks in part to a 13-7 advantage in the first period. The Mudbugs were 4-for-13 on the power play, while Mississippi failed in seven power play chances.
Brian Moir was the winning goaltender for Bossier with a 10 save effort in nearly 30 minutes of work. John Horrell came in mid-way through the contest to finish up and stopped 13 Mississippi shots on goal.
Kevin Beech was tagged with the loss for the RiverKings in net, stopping 22 of 27 shots.
The RiverKings will open the regular season next Friday night against the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 in the DeSoto Civic Center. Tickets are available for RiverKings hockey at the DCC all season long. Call the RiverKings office for more information at 662-342-1755 today!
