
Scorpions Fall In Shootout

[SANTA FE, N.M.]-The Scorpions brought Santa Fe plenty of excitement in a 4-3 shootout loss to Amarillo. Jason Weitzel scored the lone goal in the shootout giving the Gorillas a weekend sweep.
The teams played a see-saw game throughout regulation. Mitch Stephens opened up the scoring 1:52 into the contest.
Amarillo tied it up at the 7:33 mark with an Emery Olauson power play goal. A minute later Gordon Bell gave the Gorillas their first lead of the game.
Chris Robertson tied the game up 14:18 into the second period with his second goal of the pre-season. The Gorillas came back early in the third period and took the lead on Olauson's second goal of the evening.
Jamie Herrington wowed the crowd when he tipped in a power play goal at the 14:31 mark. Only 17-second later Amarillo went ahead 4-3 on Brett McConnachie's rebound tally. The Scorps re-tied the game with just over two minutes remaining on a Sam Bowles goal.
The Scorpions home opener is slated for October 17th at 7:15 p.m. The first 1,500 fans inside the Santa Ana Star Center receive rally towels courtesy of Santa Ana Star Casino.
