Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs capped off their 2008 preseason with a solid 5-0 victory over Mississippi Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Many of the Mudbugs' veteran players who did not suit up for Friday night's loss to the RiverKings were in uniform on Saturday, and the team cruised to the exhibition win.
Rookie goaltender Ryan Mior, who was in training camp with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets before joining the Mudbugs this week, played the first half of the game and stopped all 10 shots he saw. Jon Horrell came in the finished off the shutout with 13 more saves in the last 30 minutes of the game.
The Mudbugs got the offense going early and often in the first period of this one, with Travis Clayton's powerplay marker from Blaznek starting off the scoring just 3:21 into the contest. Blaznek got a pretty powerplay goal of his own from Lupul and newly acquired defenseman Todd Paul just four minutes later to make it 2-0. Evgeny Saidachev picked up a goal just a minute and a half later and capped off the period for the âBugs with another powerplay goal later on to make it 4-0 after one. Neil Poulsen fought twice in the opening frame, taking on both David Simoes and Adam Smyth before getting a game misconduct penalty after the second bout.
In the second period, neither team got on the scoreboard, but there were more fisticuffs when JR Bria fought Darrell Stoddard for the second consecutive night.
A tap-in powerplay goal by Brett Smith in the third period provided the final scoring margin of 5-0 for the âBugs.
Bossier-Shreveport looked good on the powerplay with a 4 for 13 night, while Mississippi was 0 for 7 with the man advantage.
With their preseason schedule now concluded, the Mudbugs will solidify their regular roster next week in preparation for the season opener on Friday night against the Texas Brahmas. Opening faceoff for the game is set for 7:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center. Individual tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster, and season and group packages are available at the Mudbugs office.
