Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Tomorrow night at the CenturyTel Center, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs will meet the Wichita Thunder for the first of five regular season meetings between the two long time Northern Conference rivals. The game, which gets underway at 7:05 pm, is presented by Unifirst.
The headline event of the evening will be a special presentation to Mudbugs center Travis Clayton, who recently set the all-time CHL record for career games played. Clayton will be honored by the Mudbugs and the Central Hockey League prior to the game against his former team for becoming the first CHL player ever to reach 709 games played in the league.
Now in his 12th professional season, Clayton has appeared in a total of 725 games as a professional, including 713 in the CHL. Before joining the Mudbugs for this season, the Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan native had played all of his 11 prior seasons with the Wichita franchise, starting back in 1997. Along the way, Clayton appeared in six CHL All-star games, averaged 76 points per season, and finished in the league's top 10 scorers five times. He left Wichita as the franchise's career record holder in nearly every statistical category and established himself as one of the top players in CHL history.
In addition to the games played record, Clayton's 332 career CHL goals rank second in league history and his 517 assists and 849 points both put him third in the CHL record book.
Clayton will be joined by Mudbugs teammates Joe Blaznek and Jon Horrell as former Wichita players facing the Thunder for the first time since leaving the team. The teams then will meet again Saturday as those players make their return the Kansas Coliseum. Defenseman Todd Paul, another former Wichita player, will not have a chance to face his old club after being placed on 14-day I.R. by the Mudbugs last weekend.
