Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Indianapolis, Ind. - The Toledo Mud Hens finish the Friday doubleheader winless to the Indianapolis Indians in the nightly split at Victory Field.
Toledo falls to 4-9 in the season-series against Indianapolis and 19-25 against International League West Division opponents.
Matt Hall (4-3, 5.40 ERA) got the start in Game 1 and lasted three innings in the non-decision. The 2015 Detroit Tigers sixth-round draft pick surrendered three hits and two earned runs on 36 pitches.
Tim Adleman (3-3, 3.22 ERA) went all six innings for Toledo as the Game 2 starter. Adleman had not pitched at the Triple-A level since June 18 after starting twice for Double-A Erie in those 17 days.
Friday marked the fifth doubleheader the Mud Hens have played this season. Game Two was a makeup that was originally scheduled for April 18.
In such games, Toledo is 5-5, splitting both Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Charlotte and Rochester on May 17, June 2 and June 21, respectively, and sweeping Indianapolis at Fifth Third Field on June 8.
Game One: Indians 4, Mud Hens 3
Toledo didn't have their first hit until the fourth inning.
Dawel Lugo would break open the no-hitter bid as Indianapolis starter Eduardo Vera put out nine of the first 10 batters faced.
Trailing 2-0 after Greogry Polanco recorded his first home run of the season, the Mud Hens tied it on a Ronny Rodriguez blast over the left-center fence in the fourth.
Rodriguez went without a home run in his previous 11 games played with Toledo. The 27-year-old infielder finished 2-for-5 with a double and RBI on Thursday.
Lugo, coming off his double and RBI performance in yesterday's win as well, had his ground ball single in the fifth inning roll deep enough into left field for Daz Cameron to score.
Lugo was optioned from Detroit on June 26 and has since registered a .938 OPS with 17 hits, five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs.
Indianapolis retook the lead for the eventual game-winner heading into the sixth when Kevin Kramer doubled with runners at first and second.
Zac Reininger would take the loss on three innings pitched, allowing two earned runs and two hits while striking out four.
Game Two: Indians 3, Mud Hens 0
What appeared to be a home run to right field turned to a ground rule double for Indianapolis' Eric Wood in the second inning. It'd set up two RBI singles from Darnell Sweeney and JB Shuck.
Adleman would surrender his ninth Triple-A home run of the season the following inning to Ke'Bryan Hayes.
The first and only scoring threat by Toledo came with one out in the fifth.
Mikie Mahtook reached second base on a double hit to center with one out. He'd later get caught stealing before Danny Woodrow struck out to end the inning.
Indianapolis starter James Marvel earned the complete game with three hits allowed on 83 pitches.
The Mud Hens have now been shutout seven times this season.
What's Next:
Kyle Funkhouser (1-4, 8.07 ERA) is probable to start Saturday in the third of a five-game road series against the Indians.
Opening pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (EST).
