Gwinnett Stripers News Release
The Toledo Mud Hens snuck past the Gwinnet Braves 2-1 in the final game of their four game series on Tuesday night at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, GA, splitting the series evenly. G-Braves center fielder Nate McLouth hit his 3rd leadoff home run in 6 games for an early lead, but the bullpen couldn't hold it late as the Mud Hens handed Gwinnett a homestand-ending loss. The G-Braves (52-58) remain 16.0 games behind International League South leaders Durham in third place, and 7.5 games of Wild Card-leaders Louisville. Toledo (55-56), in the bottom of their division, are 11.5 games behind IL West leaders Columbus (all figures at press time).
It Was Over When: G-Brave RHP Cory Gearrin came on in relief of LHP Lee Hyde in a 1-1 game after he gave up a leadoff single to Toledo second baseman Justin Henry in the top of the 8th inning. After getting the next two batters out, though, he allowed the go-ahead RBI single to center fielder Casper Wells.
Braves Beat:
On the Mound: LHP Scott Diamond didn't get the decision, but looked stout in 6.0 IP while allowing just 1 R/ER on 7 hits and 2 walks. He also struck out 1 batter. The single Gearrin allowed meant Hyde (0-1) got hung with his first Triple-A loss.
At the plate: McLouth finished 1-for-4 with his homer and an RBI, one of only 4 G-Braves with a hit tonight.
The opposition:
On the Mound: Toledo RHP L.J. Gagnier (5-5) went 7.0 IP and allowed 1 R/ER on just 3 hits, 2 BB, 2 K's and McLouth's HR in earning the win.
At the plate: Wells finished 2-for-3 at the dish with his game-winning RBI, while first baseman Max Leon was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
On Deck: After a day off tomorrow, Gwinnett begins an 8 game road trip on Thursday with game one of a four game set with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at 7:05 p.m. The G-Braves will send LHP Jose Ortegano (2-8, 6.55 ERA) to the hill against RHP Drew Carpenter (7-7, 3.61 ERA) for Lehigh Valley. The game will be broadcast on the radio at WDUN-550 AM.
