Knights Pitcher Carlos Torres Recalled by White Sox

FORT MILL, S.C. - Charlotte Knights right-hander pitcher Carlos Torres has been recalled by the Chicago White Sox. Torres is scheduled to start the White Sox 7:05 PM EST game tonight against the Detroit Tigers. The game is the second of a doubleheader between the White Sox and Tigers.

Torres, 27, is 7-7 with a 3.41 ERA (49 ER/129.1 IP), 122 strikeouts and a .222 (103-464) opponents average in 22 games (20 starts) with Charlotte this season. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder has gone 5-2 with a 2.54 ERA (23 ER/74.0 IP) in his last 12 starts.

Torres ranks third in the International League in strikeouts and IP and eighth in ERA. He has been named International League Pitcher of the Week on three occasions (April 8-11, May 31-June 6 and June 21-27), becoming the ninth player in league history to win the award three times in a single season.

Torres pitched in eight games (five starts) with the White Sox in 2009, going 1-2 with a 6.04 ERA (19 ER/28.1 IP) and 22 strikeouts.
