
Mud Hens defeat Bulls 8-4 in front of sell-out crowd

Durham, NC - Curtis Granderson blasted two home runs and drove in three as the Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Durham Bulls, 8-4 on Monday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in front of a sellout crowd of 10,420. Toledo improves to 51-32 on the season while Durham falls to 39-47.
Toledo took an early lead in the top of the first inning when center fielder Curtis Granderson hit his 10th home run of the season, a solo shot to left to make it 1-0. The Mud Hens went ahead 2-0 in the second inning on Mike Hessman's solo home run, his 14th of the year. Durham scored their first run of the night when left fielder Jeff Deardorff connected on his 11th home run of the season making it a 2-1 ballgame.
Leading 2-1 entering the top of the fifth, the Mud Hens put together back-to-back three-run innings to take an 8-1 lead. Marcus Thames doubled scoring Granderson to give Toledo a 3-1 lead. Carlos Pena followed with a two-run home run to put Toledo ahead, 5-1. Granderson hit his second home run of the game in the top of the sixth, a two-run shot to left field. Thames made it back-to-back home runs for the Mud Hens, hitting a solo blast to center field to give Toledo the 8-1 advantage.
The Bulls managed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a pair of home runs, a solo shot by Earl Snyder followed by Deardorff's second home run of the game, a two-run shot to right making it 8-4 in favor of Toledo.
RHP Matt Ginter (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, holding the Bulls to four runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings of work. Bulls starter Jim Magrane (1-5), making his first start since April 24, suffered his fifth loss of the year allowing two runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
