Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons will face the Rochester Red Wings in the first game of a two-game set at Frontier Field (7:05 p.m. first pitch). The Herd is coming off a two-game sweep of the Ottawa Lynx that included a 10-1 victory last night. Buffalo scored in six of eight innings to support a fantastic start from Jeremy Guthrie. Tonight, the Bisons will turn to LHP Billy Traber. The southpaw, who has alternated wins and losses in his first six starts, fell to Scranton/WB on Tuesday despite allowing just two runs in five innings. Traber will be up against LHP Ricky Barrett. Barrett will be making his first start of the season after making 21 relief appearances for the Red Wings.
VS. RED WINGS: The Bisons lead the season-series with the Wings, 5-2, after winning the two sets to start the year. The Herd took two of three games in Buffalo from April 19-21 and three of four in Rochester, May 26-29. Each game, however, has been extremely close as six of the seven match-ups have been decided by three runs or less.
SWEEPS: By winning both games against Ottawa this weekend, Buffalo picked up their fourth sweep of the season. The Bisons have yet to be swept by an opponent this year.
ANOTHER TO 50: The Bisons had yet another batter reach the 50RBI-plateau last night. Ryan Garko drove in three to give him 52RBI on the year. There are 13 batters in the International League with 50+ RBI and five of them are Bisons.
1-2 PUNCH: The Bisons' top two run producers are also 1-2 in the International League. Ernie Young picked up his IL-leading 63rd RBI last night with his 19th home run of the season (also tied for 1st in the IL). Right behind him is Andy Abad, who drove in four runs Sunday to take over second place in the league with 61RBI.
NOT JUST OFFENSE: While the Bisons are near the top in many offensive categories, the pitching staff has started to join the league's best. After posting a 2.25ERA on the four-game homestand, the Herd is now 5th in the league in pitching (4.30ERA). Buffalo is also second in fewest walks allowed (213), second in saves (26) and 6th in strikeouts (592).
