Richmond, VA - The Columbus Clippers beat the Richmond Braves 6-2 Monday at The Diamond. The Clippers broke a close game open with a three run eighth inning to earn their seventh win in nine games. The Braves suffered their fifth straight loss.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first helped by a walk and two errors. Andy Marte knocked in the run with a sacrifice fly. The Braves made it 2-0 in the third on an RBI single by Marte. The Clippers tied the game in the fifth on a two-run homer by Dave Parrish. Kevin Thompson homered in the sixth to give the Clippers the lead. Mitch Jones crushed a homer in the eighth to make it 4-2. Parrish singled a run home and Kevin Reese smacked an RBI double to close the scoring.
Darrell May worked seven innings of relief to earn the win. Ken Ray took the loss. Parrish had three of the Clippers 12 hits. Marte knocked in both Richmond runs
The Braves and Clippers meet again Tuesday at The Diamond at 7 PM. Anthony Lerew will pitch for the Braves against Sean Henn.
