June 26, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers got a career-night from second baseman Hutton Moyer and a stellar start from Garrett Nuss en route to an 8-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide at San Manuel Stadium on Saturday. The victory was the 66ers second consecutive win over the Cal League Northern Division first half champs and moved the 66ers to 19-13 against that division in 2016.
Inland Empire (25-48, 2-1) went to work against Visalia starter Ethan Elias (5-4) in the first. Tim Arakawa, David Fletcher and Moyer opened the frame with base hits, Moyer's an RBI to put the Sixers on the board. Two more runs came in when Zach Houchins drilled a single to make it 3-0. The Sixers tacked on two more runs in the third by opening the inning with five consecutive hits highlighted by RBI singles from Houchins and Roberto Baldquin. Moyer continued the offensive onslaught in the fifth when he launched a solo shot to right field to open the inning. It was his third homer of the season and third hit of the game. Jeff Boehm later singled to right to give IE a 7-1 lead.
Meanwhile, Garrett Nuss was rolling for the Sixers on the hill. The righty allowed one run on four hits with a walk allowed and four Ks in six innings of work. Nuss improved to 1-2 on the year; the victory was his first in the Cal League after going 0-7 with the Sixers last season. Relievers Eric Alonzo (2IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K) and Adam Hofacket (1IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K) finished Visalia (47-26, 1-2) off out of the pen.
The Sixers capped their scoring in the seventh and Moyer was again a central figure. The San Diego native hammered a double to right to notch his fourth hit of the game. It was his first career four-hit game and the first that the Sixers have tallied this season. Moyer came home on Boehm's second RBI single of the game making the score 8-1. Six Inland Empire hitters had multi-hit games. Moyer scored four runs. Domingo Leyba had two hits for Visalia including a double and scored the Rawhide's lone run on Michael Perez' second inning RBI double.
The series concludes Sunday at 5:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
