JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –- A late rally by the Tennessee Smokies led to their victory over the Jacksonville Suns, 6-3, in front of 8,063 fans Thursday at Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

With the score tied 3-3 in the eighth inning, the Smokies (8-6) loaded the bases without a hit off Suns reliever Will McCrotty. Pitcher Rick Ankiel walked to drive in the go-ahead run. McCrotty (1-1) earned the loss while Ankiel (1-0) earned the victory.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Suns (7-7) got runners on the corners with two outs. Michael Lyons relieved Ankiel and struck out Dave Detienne to end the threat. Lyons retired the Suns in order in the ninth to record his fifth save. He saved all three Tennessee victories in the series.

Earlier, Tarrik Brock hit his fourth home run of the year, a solo shot against Smokies starter Nick Stocks to lead off the second inning. Stocks pitched six innings, allowing three runs and striking out three. Suns starter Edwin Jackson ran into trouble in the sixth inning and finished with five strikeouts of 5-2/3 innings.

Brock, Victor Diaz and Lamont Matthews each had two hits to lead the Suns.

Left-hander Eric Stults (1-0, 7.36 ERA) is scheduled to face Carolina Mudcats lefty Dontrelle Willis (0-0, 0.75) at 7:15 p.m. Friday at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C.
