ORLANDO -After being shut out in consecutive games Tuesday and Wednesday, the Orlando Rays bats were due to come alive sometime. In a special Thursday morning game before 1,234 fans at Cracker Jack Stadium the O-Rays did just that, exploding for 16 hits in a 13-4 romp over the Huntsville Stars.

Jace Brewer, Jonny Gomes and Amado German provided the offensive spark, going a collective 8-14 with five RBI and six runs scored. Brewer earned player of the game honors after posting a 3-5 day with three RBI and two runs scored, while Gomes put on another power display with his team- and league-leading fifth home run. German went 4-5 with two runs scored, while Matt Diaz and Graig Merritt each chipped in with two hits.

On the mound O-Rays starter Doug Waechter (1-1) was on cruise control, limiting Huntsville to two earned runs on four hits over 6.0 innings. The Rays' right-hander fared much better than Stars starter Mike Jones (1-1), who was tagged with the loss after allowing seven runs (all earned) on nine hits over 5.0 innings.

Orlando travels to Mobile to start a four-game series with Bay Bears tomorrow at 7:35 ET. The contest kicks off a 12-game road trip for the Rays, who improved to 7-7 on the season and snapped a two-game losing skid. The win also gave the Rays a split of the four-game home series and gave the Rays a 4-3 season series win over the Stars.
