
Mobile Earns Series Split with 5-1 Victory

BIRMINGHAM, AL â The Birmingham Barons dropped the final game of the four-game series 5-1 to the Mobile BayBears on Thursday evening in front of 2,647 fans at the Hoover Met.
Mobile starter Chris Rojas (1-1) and two BayBear relievers limited the Barons to one run on four hits as the Barons struggled to mount an attack. Rojas picked up the win after throwing 6.0 innings and striking out five while only giving up one run on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Maldonaldo in the fourth.
Four BayBears racked up two hits on the night including former Baron Alex Fernandez who went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. The rest of the Mobile scoring came from designated hitter Rich Gomez who knocked in a pair of runs and third baseman Bobby Scales who added the final run on a bases loaded walk in the eighth.
Barons starter Dennis Ulacia (0-3) lost his third straight start after giving up four runs on 10 hits in 4.2 innings. Barons outfielder Scott Bikowski extended his team-high hitting-streak to seven games after going 1-for-2 with a single.
The Barons go on the road for a four-game series in Huntsville beginning tomorrow night at 7:05. Birmingham sends out RHP Clay Eason (0-1, 2.08) to face Huntsville's RHP Pedro Liriano (0-2, 7.00).
