Mobile BayBears News Release

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Mobile BayBears completed their four-game series with Birmingham Tuesday night, winning the finale, 5-1, to earn a split from the Barons. Starter Chris Rojas (1-1) picked the win with another strong outing. Rojas threw six innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five. Relievers Chris Oxspring and Alan Webb combined to shut out the Barons in the final three frames.

The BayBears parlayed four singles into two runs in the second inning, taking the early lead 2-0. Rich Gomez drove in the two runs with a bases loaded single, his first of two hits on the night. Mobile added two more runs in the top of the fifth as Alex Fernandez drove in the pair with a double to right field. Bobby Scales picked up an easy RBI in the eighth as he drew a bases loaded walk.

BayBears' leadoff hitter, Vince Faison reached base all four times Thursday night, scoring twice. Four Mobile batters knotched two hits in the game: Faison, Gomez, Fernandez, and Jon Knott.

The BayBears (4-10) return home for an eight-day, eight-game homestand beginning Friday. Mobile will start Roger Deago (1-0; 0.87) on the mound against the Orlando Rays in the first of four games through the weekend.

Friday's game will be followed by a fireworks spectacular, Saturday features free BayBears T-Shirts for the first 1,000 adults through the gates, and Hank Aaron Stadium will host an Easter egg hunt beginning at 5:30 on Sunday.
