Motor City Mechanics News Release
FRASER, MI- The Motor City Mechanics bury the Flags for the second time in two weeks in front of 1,765 fans including over 500 Girl Scouts at the Garage as they defeat the Flags 5-1.
It was the Mechanics who jumped out first on the scoreboard as Mike Burgoyne (2) beat Port Huron Goaltender Scott Hay high to the glove side at 3:09 of the first period. 12 minutes later Greg Bullock (2) buried a rebound in the slot to make it 2-0 Mechanics. During the first period of play the Mechanics out shot the Flags 17 to 9. Both Scott Dobben (1, 2) and Konstantin Kalmikov (4, 5) had the assists on both Mechanics goals.
In the second period it was the power plays that shined, as both teams would convert their respective attempts. At 9:56 of the second, Kalmikov (4) buried one in the back of the net with helpers from Burgoyne (2) and Kyle Kos (1). After Port Huron tallied a power play goal to cut the lead to 3-1, the Mechanics responded when Matt Smith (4) blistered a shot from the point past the Flags goaltender. Chris Gignac (6) and Brent Gretzky (5) tallied the helpers. The Port Huron goal broke Rod Branch's shutout streak of 93:04 dating back to Wednesday when he shutout the Missouri River Otters for a 1-0 shootout win.
In the third Peter Szabo (1) recorded his first professional goal with assists from Dobben (3) and Gretzky (6). Rod Branch made the start and finished with 26 saves on 27 shots to record his fifth win of the season.
