Ice in Roanoke can't take the heat

Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The high temperature in Roanoke, Virginia on Friday, November 4th was forecasted to be 77 degrees. The ice inside the Roanoke Civic Center Coliseum must have felt the heat coming.

As Civic Center staff arrived at the coliseum early Friday morning, the ice was nowhere to be found, but in its place was a large pool of water. It was quickly determined that the Vipers game against the Richmond RiverDogs, scheduled for a 7:35p.m. start, would not be taking place.

"We are unsure of the exact reason for the ice melting," said team owner and governor Kristen Dixon, "but we are working alongside the Civic Center staff to single out the problem and ensure that it does not occur again in the future."

Due to the time constraints that go along with preparing ice properly, the Vipers acted in precaution and announced that Saturday's game against the ‘Dogs would also be rescheduled. Dixon said that she will work with the Roanoke Civic Center's booking department to secure makeup dates for both games as quickly as possible. Those dates will be announced by the Vipers as soon as they are confirmed.

Tickets for either of this weekend's games will be accepted at any other regular season home during the remainder of the season. Fans holding tickets to the November 4th or 5th games should direct any questions to the Vipers front office at (540) 345-PUCK (7825). The Vipers will take to the road for a short, one-game road trip to Danbury, CT on Sunday, November 6th to take on the Trashers. Tune in to Matt Rosen's broadcast on 3WR/Fox Sports Net, which is 910AM in Roanoke and 990AM in the New River Valley.
