Moss Becomes First Daytona Pitcher to 15 Wins Since 1987

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - LHP Scott Moss allowed two runs in five innings on Tuesday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in route to his MiLB leading 15th victory. Moss became the first Daytona pitcher since Wayne Edwards in 1987 to reach 15 wins. The Tortugas drew eight walks and stole a season-high five bases, while the bullpen retired 12 of the final 13 Flying Tigers in the 4-2 win.

Lakeland got the scoring started in the third. Chad Sedio reached on a one-out infield single and Daniel Pinero drew a two-out walk to keep the inning going. Brock Deatherage lined the second pitch he saw into center, scoring Sedio from second. Pinero went first-to-third on the play, and came into score the second run on a Taylor Trammell throwing error.

The Tortugas sent eight men to the plate in the fourth and tied the game without a base hit. A pair of walks and a hit batter loaded up the bases with no-outs, then Brantley Bell hit a sacrifice fly to left to drive in Courtney Hawkins from third to cut the deficit in half. Michael Beltre drew a four-pitch walk to reload the bases and Alfredo Rodriguez followed that up by drawing a walk to force in Trammell from third and tie the game at two.

Daytona took their first lead in the fifth. Trammell drew a four pitch, two-out walk to extend the inning, stole second, and scored on a Tyler Stephenson single to right.

The Tortugas added insurance in the eighth. Rodriguez reached on a one-out single, moved first-to-third when Randy Ventura reached on a Zac Shepherd error, and scored on an Ibandel Isabel base hit to run the lead to 4-2.

Moss (15-3) earned the win. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits in five innings with a pair of walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts. LHP Liarvis Breto (3-2) takes the loss. He allowed two runs on one hit and four walks in two innings. He also struck out three. RHP Ryan Hendrix earned his 11th save by tossing a perfect ninth with a strikeout.

RHP Andrew Jordan (1-5, 7.11) will get the ball for the Tortugas on Wednesday. Jordan will be opposed by LHP Eudis Idrogo (3-3, 4.48).

First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7:05 PM with coverage beginning at 6:50 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.

Randy Ventura has reached to start five straight games. He has 3 singles, a double, and a walk in that span... Ibandel Isabel has a hit in 7-straight home games and has driven in a run in 4-straight. Isabel is 13-for-29 (.448) during that span... Taylor Trammell stole three bases for the first time in exactly a year (8/21/17). He is the first Tortuga with three thefts in a game this season... Alfredo Rodriguez reached base three times, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, walk, RBI, and a run. He now has 3 multi-hit games with Daytona... Michael Beltre and Tyler Stephenson both drew multiple walks... LHP Scott Moss reached double-digit strikeouts (10) for the third time in his career. He struck out 11 twice last season with Dayton (A-)... Since his blown save on 7/26, Ryan Hendrix hasn't allowed an unearned run in 6 1/3 innings (7 outings). He has 73 strikeouts in 47 innings this season... Michael Byrne has gone 11-straight innings without allowing a run.
