Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Daniel Brito reached base three times, and Pedro Florimon continued a rehab assignment, but the Threshers dropped the series opener to crosstown rival Dunedin 5-1 on Tuesday night at Spectrum Field.

Florimon finished 1-for-3 on the night with a walk and a run scored. Florimon was added to the Threshers roster on August 14 after being put on the Phillies Disabled List on May 30 due to a fracture of his right foot.

Despite the loss, Clearwater (37-20) (69-56) holds on to first place in the FSL North Division with just 12 games left in the regular season. A Lakeland loss leaves the Threshers four games up on the Flying Tigers, and Dunedin gains ground with the win, moving to 5.5 games behind Clearwater in the midst of a three-game series against the Threshers.

The Blue Jays (32-26) (63-63) took advantage of a two-out rally in the first to grab an early lead. After a strikeout and a pop out to short, Kevin Smith drew a two-out walk, and Chad Spanberger lined a base hit into left field to put two men on base. Riley Adams, Brock Lundquist and Rodrigo Orozco then delivered three straight RBI doubles to snag a 4-0 advantage.

The Threshers threatened in the third after Brito smashed the first pitch he saw for a two-out double to center field, but was left stranded. Brito went 1-for-2 on the night with two walks and a double.

Dunedin added to the damage in the fourth inning. Orazco hit a leadoff infield single to the rehabbing shortstop Florimon, and Kacy Clemens followed with a groundball through the right side and off the low wall, putting men at the corners with no outs.

Yeltsin Gudino then launched a sacrifice fly into center field to score the run, extending the lead to 5-0.

After Josh Palacios hit a groundball through into right-center, Alberto Tirado entered the game in relief of starter Ramon Rosso (5-2). Tirado inherited runners on first and second, but was able to get out of the jam, eliciting back-to-back fly outs to center to end the inning with no further damage.

Clearwater cut the deficit in the eighth. Florimon led off with an infield single to the shortstop, and after two consecutive groundouts advanced Florimon to third, Henri Lartigue singled him home with a line drive to right field to get the Threshers on the board 5-1.

Rosso suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on eight hits. He permitted one walk while striking out five in his 3.1 innings in the start.

Tirado went on to toss 2.2 scoreless innings. He gave up just two hits, while not permitting a walk, and collecting three strikeouts. Grant Dyer dealt two scoreless innings, conceding just one hit and striking out one.

J.D. Hammer closed out the game for the Threshers. Hammer hurled a hitless ninth, retiring all three he faced in his second scoreless appearance for the Threshers since being activated from the DL on August 18.

The Threshers and Dunedin faceoff again on Wednesday night at Spectrum Field. LHP David Parkinson (2-0) will take the hill against RHP Maverik Buffo (3-3) for a 7 p.m. first pitch. Josh Appel will have the call on threshersbaseball.com with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
