Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SAVANNAH, Ga. (August 20, 2015) - The Sand Gnats extended their South Atlantic League-best winning streak to 16 games with a 6-2 win over the Intimidators on Thursday at Historic Grayson Stadium. Kannapolis (24-29 Second Half, 59-62) dropped its third straight game despite putting an end to the offense's scoreless innings streak after 20 frames.
Savannah scored four runs in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 lead. Following a one-out error that allowed the Gnats' No. 9 batter to reach base, Savannah's top of the order went to work with four consecutive hits. Luis Guillorme smashed a two-run double, and Wuilmer Becerra and Eudor Garcia followed with run-scoring infield hits.
The Gnats added two unearned runs in the home half of the fourth, chasing Kannapolis starter Jose Brito from the game.
Casey Delgado (7-3) worked 7.0 innings for the Gnats to pick up the win, giving up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. Paul Paez and Luis Mateo each spun a perfect relief inning.
Kannapolis relievers Jacob Morris and Ryan Riga combined for 4 and 2/3 scoreless innings. Morris struck out three while giving up a hit, and Riga worked around three hits for a scoreless seventh and eighth inning.
The Intimidators came into Thursday's game hang been shutout in back-to-back contests against Asheville and snapped the team's scoreless inning streak with a run in the third. Ethan Gross led off with a base hit, and Alexander Simon later brought him home with a sac-fly for an early 1-0 lead.
Kannapolis added a run in the fourth when Cody Daily doubled to score Michael Suiter from first.
The Intimidators continue this four-game series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Zach Thompson (3-5 4.33 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against the Sand Gnats' RHP Chris Flexen (1-0, 0.73 ERA).
