Morning Skate: Bulls Wrap up Home & Home with Gens

February 28, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Belleville Bulls News Release

BELLEVILLE, ON - The second half of a home-and-home series with the Belleville Bulls and the Conference leading Oshawa Generals goes down at the Yardmen Arena on Saturday night. The Gens doubled up the visiting Bulls on Friday, dropping them to seventh in the OHL's Eastern Conference. With just nine games remaining in the regular season, the Bulls will be looking to pick up any point they can when the puck hits the ice at 7:05pm.

In front of a sold out crowd at the GM Centre, the Generals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Just four minutes in, Barrie, Ontario native Bradley Latour opened the scoring for his club. Belleville would tie it up about ten minutes later when Jordan Subban buried his franchise leading 23rd goal of the year. Before the end of the first frame, the Gens found the back of the net again when Cole Cassels potted his 26th of the season.

After a chippy second period that only saw a goal each for the two teams, Oshawa exploded with a 5-goal final frame to send the Bulls packing. Other goal scorers for the Gens were Matt Mistele (2), Mitch Vande Sompel, Kenny Huether, Hunter Smith and Brent Pedersen. Forwards Brett Welychka, Brandon Saigeon and Michael Cramarossa also tallied for the Bulls. Netminder Jeremy Brodeur got the start and made 21 saves while his counterpart Connor Hicks stopped 31 shots.

The loss allows the Kingston Frontenacs to leap frog the Bulls and take over sixth place in the OHL's Eastern Conference. Belleville is now one point behind the Fronts and only three points ahead of the eighth place Peterborough Petes, who host the aforementioned Fronteancs tonight at 7:05pm. The Mississauga Steelheads, who are fighting to sneak into the post season, are five points behind the Petes and travel to Barrie tonight to take on the Colts at 7:30pm.

Subban, the Vancouver Canucks pick, continues to lead all OHL defencemen with 23 goals and will be honoured for his record breaking season prior to puck drop. Also, the first 2000 fans to walk through the doors will receive a limited edition Jordan Subban collector card.

Expect Toronto native, Charlie Graham to get the start on home ice tonight.
