Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - The Belleville Bulls and the Oshawa Generals wrapped up a home-and-home series at the Yardmen Arena on Saturday night. In front of 3,094 fans, the Bulls got their revenge on the number one team in the country. The Bulls opened the scoring and then buried three un-answered in the final frame on route to a 4-1 victory.
After getting doubled up 24 hours ago at the GM Centre in Oshawa, the Bulls came out with a ton of energy and opened the scoring just under ten minutes into the first period. Jordan Subban, who was honoured prior to puck drop for his record-breaking season, added another to his total when he beat Broduer with a back hander. Rookie Brandon Saigeon picked up the assist.
Two minutes later the Generals tied it up on the power play. 1995-born winger Tobias Lindberg potted a loose puck on the door step. Michael McCarron and Mitch Vande Sompel were credited with the assists. Shots favoured the visiting Generals 18-10 after the first 20 minutes.
Things began to get a little chippy in the middle frame. Both teams had a couple power play opportunities but couldn't capitalize on the man advantage.
Looking to pick up two points and snap their three game losing skid, the Bulls sent the Generals packing in the third. Five minutes in, Whitby, Ontario native Adam Laishram made a great and roofed his 8th of the season drawing assists from Michael Cramarossa and Brett Gustavsen.
The Bulls kept coming later in the stanza. Welland, Ontario native Niki Petti broke into the Oshawa zone and made a beautiful move around Brodeur to put his club up 3-1. Stephen Harper and Adam Laishram added the helpers.
In the dying seconds of regulation, the Generals pulled Brodeur and added the extra attacker but to no avail as Bulls captain Brett Welychka put the nail in the coffin and potted an empty netter.
Toronto native Charlie Graham stood on his head and made 51 saves in the win. Brodeur stopped 18 pucks. With the win the Bulls reclaim sixth in the OHL's Eastern Conference.
