
Morgan, Long Named to U.S. Women's National Team Roster for International Friendly

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC forward Alex Morgan and midfielder Allie Long have been named to the U.S. Women's National Team roster for an upcoming international friendly against Switzerland on Aug. 20, it was announced today.
The U.S. Women's National Team will face Switzerland on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The game will be broadcast live on ussoccer.com.
Morgan, 25, returned to the fold with the U.S. Women's National Team in June for a pair of friendlies against France. The Thorns FC forward made her first appearance with the United States since November 2013 after battling back from an ankle injury, entering the match as a second-half substitute in a 1-0 win against France on June 14. A second-half substitute against France on June 19, Morgan registered a brace, helping the United States earn a 2-2 draw. This season for Portland, Morgan has played in 13 matches (12 starts), recording five goals and four assists.
Long, 26, is being named to a U.S. Women's National Team roster for the third time in 2014. The Thorns FC midfielder earned her first cap with the senior national team in a 1-1 draw against Canada on May 8, coming in as a substitute in the 68th minute. In two friendlies against France, Long featured in both matches and tallied her first point and assist with the U.S. Women's National Team on June 19. In 21 matches (19 starts) for Portland, Long has recorded nine goals, ranking her tied for fifth in the NWSL, and two assists.
Morgan and Long will depart following Portland's regular-season finale against Seattle Reign FC on Sunday, Aug. 17, at Providence Park. Sunday's match, sponsored by Alaska Airlines, will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet Northwest; kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. (Pacific).
