New York Red Bulls Acquire Forward Saer Sene Via Trade from New England

HARRISON, NJ (August 12, 2014) - The New York Red Bulls have acquired forward Saer Sene and an international roster slot from the New England Revolution via trade the club announced today. In exchange for Sene, the Red Bulls sent forward Andre Akpan and allocation money to New England.

"Saer, who can play wide or up front, will add a different dimension and another option to our attack," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. "We're excited to bring him aboard and at the same time, we wish Andre all the best with his new club."

Sene, who has spent his first three seasons in MLS with New England, has scored 17 career goals while adding eight assists. In 2012, his first season with the club, Sene led the team in scoring with 11 goals to go along with three assists.

Before joining MLS, Sene spent eight seasons between France and Germany playing for Paris Saint Germain B, FC Etampes, SG Schorndorf, SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach and Bayern Munich II.

Akpan, who was in his second season with the Red Bulls, made five appearances this season - all as a substitute. The forward began his career with the Colorado Rapids and has made 41 career appearances, scoring four goals and adding two assists.
