Joe Nasco Returns to Rapids After Loan to Atlanta

Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Joe Nasco returned to training on Tuesday, having spent the past month on loan to the Atlanta Silverbacks. For Nasco, the trip back to his former club was - in his words - "a great experience", rounded off with arguably the longest match of his career.

During his stint, Nasco started all four games and the Silverbacks posted a record of 2-1-1. The one loss came at the hands of the New York Cosmos last Saturday, in what Nasco called "a wild game all around." The game started at 7:30pm and within minutes, Silverbacks midfielder Junior Burgos had his side up 1-0 by way of a long-distance strike tucked into the upper 90.

But in the 22nd minute, storms rolled in and match officials made the decision to stop the game. According to AtlantaSilverbacksFC.com, the stoppage turned into a three and a half hour weather delay. Many of the 4,000 fans had given up for the night byt the time a decision was made to complete the fixture.

"The NASL commissioner planned to make a decision on the game by 11pm," Nasco explained. "But by that time, half the field was already cleared off and they were getting the other half worked on. So we had to hold out and play it and see what happened."

It was 11:30pm once the match was restarted and the final whistle did not blow until after 1am! By then the Cosmos had tallied two goals on the Silverbacks, who went down a man when Junior Sandoval was shown a red card in the 42nd minute.

After the wild ride in Atlanta, Nasco returns to the Rapids fully aware that the team has not performed up to par as of late. He hopes that after getting a few games under his belt with the Silverbacks he can help for the final third of the season.

"I know the team hasn't done so well these past four or five games, but hopefully I can come back in and give a little extra boost and get the guys on the front foot again."
