Morello's 2 RBI Prove to be Difference as Slammers Beat Otters 4-3

Much like the game yesterday, tonight was another one for the pitching fanatics. Both teams combined for just 4 hits through 4 innings. It wasn't until the bottom half of the 5th when the Slammers put their first run on the board. Jimmy Roche stepped into the box with one out and launched his first career homerun over the wall in left-center giving the Slammers a 1-0 lead.
The Slammers would tack on 3 more runs in their half of the 7th inning. Jimmy Roche led off with a single and scored after an Evansville error. London Lindley, who walked, and Chaz Meadows, who reached via the aforementioned error, both scored on a single from Jared Morello pushing the score to 4-0.
Evansville put together a 2-out rally to score their first run of the game in the 8th inning. Jack Meggs scored on a single from JJ Gould making it a 4-1 game.
The Otters would add 2 more runs in the 9th inning after Ryan Long hit a 2-run homerun over the wall in left field. That would lead to the end of Matt Quintana's night.
Matt Quintanawas absolutely dominant through 8 innings for the Slammers tonight. After allowing a double in the 1st inning, Quintana sat down the next 8 Otter hitters he faced. He went on another run in the game where he sat down 13 in a row, until he gave up his first run in the 8th inning. The final line on Quintana: 8 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 11 K.
Austin Nicely's night ended after 6.1 innings. He allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, struck out 4 while issuing 3 walks. Kevin Simmons came on in relief and allowed both runners he inherited to score.

With the win tonight, the Slammers improve their record to 25-37 and take 2 of 3 from Evansville. The Otters fall to 35-27 with the loss. The Slammers will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to Sauget, IL to take on the Gateway Grizzlies. The first game of that 3-game series is Friday, July 26th.
