Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose return home after a week-and-a-half of border hopping between Michigan, Ontario, and Illinois. Manitoba salvaged two wins late in the road trip in Grand Rapids and Rockford, boosting the trip record to 3-3-0-1. Highlights of the seven-game road trip included a pair of six-goal outbursts in Lake Erie and Grand Rapids, a stone walled effort by Eddie Lack in Rockford in a 3-1 win, and a four-game point streak by rookie Cody Hodgson.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010: Manitoba 1, Hamilton 3 The Moose faced the Bulldogs four games into their road trip and for the first time since back-to-back shootout wins over Hamilton at MTS Centre. Manitoba battled their former goaltender Curtis Sanford, who was in net for Hamilton, and was stopped on 19 of 20 shots. Trailing 2-1 late in the game, the Moose pulled Eddie Lack for the extra attacker and surrendered the empty netter for the third time in three games.

Wednesday, November 3, 2010: Manitoba 4, Hamilton 5 (SO) The rematch at Copps Coliseum was higher scoring than any of the previous three Moose-Bulldogs games but had a very similar result as the first two in Manitoba. Just like the first pair of games in October, the two North Division rivals required a shootout to decide the better team. This time the Bulldogs secured the win scoring on three-of-four chances in the shootout beating Manitoba's one-for-four. Moose rookie Bill Sweatt recorded a two-goal, one-assist effort in regulation.

Friday, November 5, 2010: Manitoba 6, Grand Rapids 5 The Moose had been handled by the Griffins in three previous contests this season but had a handle on this one for most of 60 minutes. On separate occasions the Moose led 3-1 and 5-3 with the Griffins eventually tying it late in the third period. Jordan Schroeder's first goal of the year was the difference and Manitoba avoided a sweep in the season series with Grand Rapids.

Saturday, November 6, 2010: Manitoba 3, Rockford 1 Manitoba's offence had provided 10 goals in the previous two games but was stagnant until the closing five minutes of the third period in Rockford. Eddie Lack was spectacular in the Moose net allowing just one goal on 29 shots and killing off seven of eight IceHogs power plays. Moose rookie Cody Hodgson netted the team's first goal with 4:40 left, then Jeff Tambellini scored two goals 30 seconds apart to secure the 3-1 win.

Moose Notes

GETTING IN ON THE ACTION: The Moose have scored 41 goals this season and are tied for the league lead in number of players with at least one goal. Both the Moose and Toronto Marlies have received goal contribution from 18 different players. The most recent member of the Moose to score their first this season was Jeff Tambellini on Saturday in Rockford. Tambellini netted what would be the game winning goal against the IceHogs and scored a second time 32 seconds later to ensure the win.

HODGSON WITH THE HOT HAND: Cody Hodgson has a hockey pedigree that carries with it big expectations. The 10th overall pick of the Vancouver Canucks in 2008 has led Canada in scoring at the World Junior Hockey Championships, brought the Brampton Battalion to the OHL finals, and played in 11 AHL Calder Cup Playoff games for the Moose as a 19-year-old. After an unproductive start to the season Hodgson is now riding a four-game point streak (4g, 2a) and through 13 games is leading the Moose in scoring (6g, 3a).

GOING STREAKING: Manitoba ended their recent road trip by winning two in a row with wins on Friday in Grand Rapids and Saturday in Rockford. The Moose have jumped between brief winning and losing streaks through 13 games this season as they have won or lost a minimum of two consecutive games before starting a new streak. Manitoba's longest winning streak is three games (Oct. 21-29) and their longest losing streak is four games (Oct. 30-Nov. 3).

Upcoming Opponents

The team returns to Manitoba with a six-day break between Saturday's game in Rockford and Heritage Night on Friday, November 12 when the Moose host the Rochester Americans. On Heritage Night, the Manitoba Moose will be celebrating their 15th anniversary since debuting in Winnipeg and will also wear jerseys commemorating the 75th season of the American Hockey League.
