Moose Open Set with Texas with Victory

The Manitoba Moose (30-26-3-2) earned a 4-3 win over the Texas Stars (30-26-4-3) on Wednesday evening at Bell MTS Place. The teams took on a defensive stance early in the contest as the first shot on goal of the game didn't come until 4:38 into the contest. Eric Comrie was forced to make eight saves in the period and Landon Bow stopped five Moose attempts. The Moose penalty kill got in some work, turning away the Stars on two power play opportunities. Manitoba carried 1:09 of power play time into the second period with the teams tied 0-0.
Manitoba didn't cash in on the power play, but cracked open the scoring 3:23 into the second period when Cam Maclise tipped home a Logan Stanley point shot. Texas responded in short order on a redirect from Brad McClure just 1:31 after the Maclise tally. The Stars took the lead on a wild bounce at 10:56 as a Joel Hanley dump-in careened off a stanchion and skipped into the Moose net with Comrie out to collect the puck behind the goal. Manitoba killed off its third penalty of the game shortly after Texas' go-ahead goal, and went to a power play of its own. Cameron Schilling was able to walk in off the point and fire a shot that was tipped by Marko Dano to tie the game with 4:48 left in the period. The Moose powered back in front courtesy of Jimmy Oligny showing great patience with Landon Bow down and out. Oligny avoided the crowd in front by finding Schilling in the faceoff circle, and the defender ripped the puck to the back of the net for a 3-2 Moose lead with 13 seconds left in the period.
The Moose maintained the edge until Erik Condra found a loose puck and set up Gavin Bayreuther for the tying marker with 10:16 to go in the third. With overtime starting to become a possibility, the Moose broke the tie. Jansen Harkins went for a skate around the Texas zone, before dishing to Felix Girard who lifted the puck over Bow's pad on his second attempt to give the Moose the lead. Manitoba held on the rest of the way to pick up a crucial 4-3 win in regulation.

Defenceman Cameron Schilling on his power play unit scoring - "I think guys just played with confidence and were able to make plays. Hitting the seam and kind of holding onto the puck that extra split-second, we were able to get into the zone there. We don't get a ton of minutes, but you know we gotta be ready when we do get out there and get a start. That's our shooting mentality and I think that's what we brought, we had three or four shots in probably less than a minute-and-a-half of ice time, so I think that's kind of the key to what our power play brings."
Head Coach Pascal Vincent on Jimmy Oligny setting up Cameron Schilling's second period goal - "If you were close to the bench you would hear the whole bench screaming 'shoot, shoot the puck!', and I was screaming 'shoot the puck!' as well. I'm one of them. But good for him, good vision, we ask our guys to make plays when they see them and he saw cam being wide open and that was a good play."
